Why You Need Minerals For Good Health

Minerals are the forgotten heroes of our day and the foundation in the building blocks of good health.☺️ Macro minerals, like calcium, chloride, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, and sodium have to be consumed as they cannot be produced by the body, and are responsible for building strong 💪 teeth and bones, keeping the fluid balance between the inner and outer parts of the cell, responsible for hundreds of biochemical reactions, water retention, and more. Trace minerals are just as important and responsible for regulating metabolism, providing energy 🏃‍♀️and transportation of oxygen to cells, assisting with liver, detoxification, supporting a reproduction, thyroid hormone metabolism and more.

As you can see, there’s a long list of ways that minerals support us for optimal health. Yet most aren’t getting these essential minerals that they need because we are consuming much more nutrient depleted foods compared to 50 to 80 years ago. 🙁This is due to the use of pesticides and insecticides, poor soils due not rotating crops, consuming more processed foods and more.

Mineral Deficiencies can present with the following symptoms:

  • Brittle hair and nails

  • Mouth ulcers or cracks in the corner of mouth

  • Scaly patches and dandruff

  • Irregular heartbeat

  • Numbness or tingling

  • Muscle cramping

  • Constipation or diarrhea

  • Bloating

  • Hair loss

  • Hair graying

  • Rashes

  • Bone demineralization

  • Weakness

  • Dull skin/pale face

  • Dizziness upon standing

As mineral consumption decreases ⬇️sickness also increase ⬆️, making us more susceptible to diseases. We also see heavy-metal toxicity ❌increases as heavy metals compete with the same binders as essential minerals. It’s easy to see how it’s more of a challenge to get the proper minerals that we need for good health when our soils are so depleted but also we are rapidly burning through them due to more stressful lifestyles than ever before.

What Are The Benefits Of Minerals & How Do They Protect Us?

  • Minerals are protective against heavy metal toxicity as they are antagonistic towards them

  • Minerals are helpful for cell function, growth, development

  • Phosphorus aids in metabolism stability, detoxification, energy +cognition

  • Magnesium aids in blood pressure stability, nerve function, blood sugar

  • Sodium aids in fluid retention, balance + nerve transmission

  • Potassium aids in electrolyte balance + blood pressure

  • Iron aids in red blood cell formation + assists antioxidant enzymes

So we know the problems that arise when we don't get enough and we also know the benefits of proper mineral consumption. So how do we get there? What do we do to encourage adequate mineral consumption?
